Maize Value Chain Analysis

The Georgian Farmers’ Association, with the support of the European Union (EU) and in partnership with the international company Agrinatura, organized the presentation of a comprehensive analysis of the maize value chain in Georgia.

The study was prepared within the framework of the VCA4D initiative and was carried out over the course of one year by leading experts in the field, including: Heval Yildirim, Giorgi Shubitidze, Ricardo Villani, Rati Kochlamazashvili, and Natia Gelashvili.

The primary objective of the experts’ work was to provide a clear picture of the current situation in the sector and identify pathways for its future development. The study covered several key aspects:

· Comprehensive Analysis: The maize value chain was assessed from economic, social, and environmental perspectives.

· Market Potential: Development opportunities for the sector were identified in both domestic and export markets.

· Barrier Identification: Researchers identified the key challenges currently faced by farmers and other actors involved in the agribusiness sector.

· Strategic Recommendations: Specific action plans were developed to promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural development in the country.

The presentation of the analysis results was conducted in an interactive format. The event was attended by local maize producers, agricultural input suppliers, representatives of financial institutions, international organizations and associations, as well as sector experts.

The second part of the presentation was dedicated to discussing the sector’s strengths and weaknesses, future opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis).
