The mission of the department is to provide expert services to farmers and companies involved in agriculture, focusing on the implementation of modern technologies, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and supporting the development of quality infrastructure.

Edward Shermadini
Head of the Department since November 2021. He is an active farmer, producing apples, cherries, and grapes on 16 hectares of land. Over the years, he has served as a consultant for CHF International, OSCE, IOM, USAID/Neo, USAID/SEAS, USAID/Zrda, FAO, and IFAD.
In the field of agriculture, he has completed the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Cochran Fellowship Program in the USA and MASHAV program courses in Israel. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration (GIPA, 2004) and also studied at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1996).

Ilia Kunchulia
Ilia Kunchulia is a Specialist at the Agronomy and Certification Department of the Georgian Farmers’ Association (GFA) and also serves as the Head of Health, Occupational Safety, and Environmental Protection at the organization. His core responsibilities include the implementation of ongoing projects, development of new initiatives, and the design, offering, and management of service packages and portfolios for business clients. He provides support and consultancy services to farmers and is actively involved in the Association’s non-formal and vocational education activities.
Ilia works on strengthening quality infrastructure across agricultural value chains and on developing business models for farming enterprises. He supports farmers in the adoption of climate-smart practices and standards, ensuring compliance with legislation, certification requirements, and market access.
Representing the Georgian Farmers’ Association as a key stakeholder in the agricultural sector, Ilia participates in various project and program meetings, research activities, legislative update processes, working groups, and councils. His areas of engagement include climate change adaptation, mitigation of the sector’s negative contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, agricultural waste management, and the sustainable use of agrochemicals and natural resources, among others.
Ilia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ilia State University (2014) and a Master’s degree in Agronomy from the Georgian Agricultural University (2016).
