With the support of the Georgian Farmers’ Association, a Japanese business delegation visited Georgia. The delegation produces traditional Japanese sweets, one of whose key ingredients is adzuki beans, a variety that holds a special place in Japanese cuisine.
The visit aimed to explore the potential for introducing and producing adzuki beans in Georgia and to assess opportunities for future cooperation.
The delegation met with local bean farmers in the villages of Ghogheti, Dirbi, and Mokhisi in the Kareli Municipality to discuss local production practices and the prospects for cultivating adzuki beans in Georgia.
In the past, beans were cultivated on around 3,000 hectares in Kareli Municipality. Although the cultivated area has since declined, local farmers expressed their willingness to consider diversifying production and introducing adzuki beans if concrete business proposals are presented by the Japanese side.
The visit marks an important step toward strengthening agricultural cooperation between Georgia and Japan, creating new opportunities for Georgian farmers while supporting crop diversification and enhancing the country’s export potential.
